Serdijn Ship Repair had been awarded the order for the replacement of the 26.000 kg main boiler. Initially the managers (German based W-O Shipping) wanted to remove the old boiler through vessels side. An Engineer from Serdijn Ship Repair learned that it’s better to release the boiler from the vessel by partially removing the vessels funnel.

Serdijn lifted the broken boiler and installed the new boiler at the same place. Whilst the pipe fitters and welders were connecting all piping, a different team re-instated the funnel and all internals which were temporarily removed.

Serdijn also carried out hull damage repairs to the vessel side as well as to vessels transverse stern plate. Also renewal of several deck frames and the replacement of piping to a ballast and cooling water system were examined.

The vessel left Serdijn’s jetty 1 within 2 weeks of labour, sailing happily ever after.

Serdijn Ship Repair was asked to give assistance for damage control on board of MV Najaden, who struck the Botlek bridge near Rozenburg. The vessel passed while the bridge was being lowered. This resulted in a seriously damaged aft mast and funnel. The vessel was unable to proceed as her engines could no longer be used and she was stopped instantly.

Serdijn rendered assistance for the installation of temporary power supply by means of a suitable generator which was loaded onto the deck and connected to the vessels electrical grid. After a tender, Serdijn had been awarded to repair the wheelhouse; funnel, stores/MOB crane and the repair of vessels exhaust system including electrical, mechanical and steel repairs.

Within 3 weeks after arrival of the vessel at Serdijn’s jetty 2, the vessel left with a newly fabricated funnel and aft mast to pick up cargo for the Baltic. During the vessel voyage the overhauled and repaired crane was installed by Serdijn, during a port stay in France a couple of weeks later.
